START YOUR JOURNEY TO CONFIDENCE HERE
Wonderful!
Step 1 Begin Where you are, with what you have
Notice your thoughts.
Begin building the habit of catching the thoughts that make you feel bad. Then, take an action step to resolve it.
That is, for example, you used to play the piano a long time ago and you have thoughts and ideas about that, and longing too. Perhaps you are telling yourself “I’m too old now. I can’t do it perfectly so I won’t try. It’s too hard. You have to be ….. to do that.” Instead, catch yourself thinking that then stop. Ask yourself, “what action step could I take now to feel better about this?” It could be to ask yourself whether you actually would love to play the piano and it would expand the joy in your life, or saying those things to yourself is simply an old awful habit? Another action could be to explore the local piano teachers to see if there is one you could talk with – take a first step to having some piano lessons and acquiring a beautiful sounding piano for yourself.
You catch yourself thinking “I’d feel so much better if I could get myself to have a morning walk, every day!”
Notice how often you tell yourself something about this? Is it a lot?
What is one baby step you could take to get you started? Might it be putting your walking shoes beside your bed, with the intention that you will put them on first thing in the morning and go for a walk, even if it is only as far as the letter box – or a distance that you know you can easily do. Yes?
Step 2 Make Space for your new Confidence to come in
Make space for your new confidence to come in.
Look around your home. What can you see or feel that lowers your confidence?
Change it to what fills you with love! This will build your confidence because you will be surrounded with reminders of love.
Want a clue for where to begin?
When you look at the sheets on your bed, are they fresh? Clean? Do you love the colour? If not, wash them, or buy new ones in a colour you love and that you know is flattering to your skin tone.
Declutter. Your home is your outer body. Pride in it will build your confidence. Everything that hasn’t been used in a long time, or you don’t love, give it away or sell it or throw it out. Fix what is broken. Throw out the dead flowers. Make a place for everything and put everything in it’s place. Clean your home including the windows and the stove oven. Fix any leaks. Being house proud will build your confidence.
Step 3 Go Where The Energy Is
Go Where the Energy Is
When you are making a choice, the option that makes you feel more alive or more expansive or has ‘energy’ to it is the way to go.
Whatever floats your boat, or energises you, or excites you, has something for you.
It is a message from your soul telling you that this is important and to take notice.
Why would someone take notice of that?
We all have an inner guidance system called feelings.
Our feelings indicate whether we are safe or not, happy or not, on the right track or not and many others.
When we acknowledge how we are feeling and learn to decipher what the message is for our wellbeing, we are on our way to living a much richer more fulfilling life.
It may feel easier or seem to be more effective to shut down our feelings and ignore them.
In some situations, this may be the smart option, as in when our safety in the moment is threatened. I am not talking about this though.
What I am talking about is how we make those decisions about whether to go this way or that way in our life path choices.
Do I get a day job while I continue to work on my art?
What kind of day job do I go for?
Can I go for what I would love to do?
Do I have to continue in the job I hate?
Ultimately the answer to those questions is inside of you.
Your feelings are the stay or go barometer.
If we can continually be aware of and witness our internal guidance system (our feelings) over time we develop a much stronger relationship with ourselves. Our confidence grows.
We develop trust in ourselves when we heed our feelings and “go where the energy is”.
It is my experience that despite what society or my head might be telling me to do, my feelings and energy might be telling me something else. I always take the time to reconcile them.
At the beginning of exploring “go where the energy is”, I recall starting very simply with decisions that weren’t all that important. I was testing the idea. Then over time as I noticed the results I was having, more and more I applied it to bigger decisions. The result has been a more and more fulfilling life experience. My confidence has grown.
People often say to me “when you change to talking about your work, you light up like a Christmas tree!” I am delighted to say this is the outcome of choosing to go where the energy is, over many years.
Step 4 Tune into your Body and your Feelings and your Surroundings
Tune into your body.
It’s temperature. It’s shapes. It’s weight. It’s textures.
Your feet. Your arms. Your knees. Your back.
Notice the clothes you are wearing. Heavy or light or tight or loose.
Is the room temperature warm or cool.
Is there a residue of feeling in your belly.
Your ears. Your nose. Your fingers.
Your breathing.
Breathing slowly now, notice how you feel.
Count to 5.
You are about to open a banquet of choices.
These choices can take you from a highly sensitive timid bullied girl woman to a confident prosperous powerful woman on your own terms, simply by making choices and taking the actions, step by step.
When you take the next step, remember to Go Where the Energy Is.
Notice where the energy comes alive for you, and take action.
Open the page with a banquet of choices.
